  • This review is for Advanced Air based in Hawthorne, CA - the entire process (4 out of 5 steps) took about six weeks. Everybody at AA was very pleasant and professional throughout the experience. The initial HR phone interview covered broad strokes; applicant background with some follow-up questions about education, work history and information about the company. After that was the online assessment - this is a timed test with mostly multiple choice questions, but also math, problem solving, logic and WWYD type HR questions towards the end of the test, so be ready to type fast; if you spend roughly 20-25 seconds per question you can finish the test - mine had more than 70 questions. Next was the online panel interview with two line pilots; this was also mostly IFR related...

The interview was with Southern Airways. The interview was short and sweet. There were a couple of questions that came out of FIA written. ( Lift/Drag Max was one answer) They offered me Surf Mobility upon successful (HR) interview with their management. I had previous experience with customers first-hand with my previous job. That went a long way. I was offered the job with Surf Air, but afterward was offered PIC in the Caravan. The need is in the Caravan at the moment. So I took that...

My panel was in line with questions listed here. I am waiting for a final interview. Part 91 IFR questions. CRM questions. Multi engine...

  4. 4.

There is a HR phone screen, an in person panel interview and a sim eval. The HR phone screen is just general tell me about yourself, total time, why you like advanced, air etc. After that phone call, there is an online test that is very long and you probably won't be able to finish. The in person panel interview is with various pilots (lots of IFR stuff). The sim is in a redbird which is a G1000. Will do approaches, holds, checklists,...

  5. 5.

Overall a great application process. Everyone involved from Advanced Airlines was very helpful and provided a lot of good info about the company along the way. To help prepare, make sure to rehearse and practice answers to various TMAAT questions (When you struggled with a student or co-pilot, when you failed a checkride, etc.). As for the panel interview and final interview with the Chief Pilot, make sure to study IFR regs for Part 91, as well as Chapter 5 of the...

Everything on the gouge was what I was asked Basic HR questions first then asked about jepp plates, heavy IFR knowledge stuff, decide metar and taf. When to descend on an approach. Lots of TMAAT questions. (view the study guide of this website).  And spoke about the flow they started with Southwest if i would be interested in that.  Training is at Flightsafety and not in...

The interview was with Advanced Air, Part 135 Operator for Surf Air. Telephone interview was straight-forward with a pilot/HR person. Know the basics: tell about yourself (more detail than resume).  Know the different aspects of the company's operations. Relaxed atmosphere, but very professional. Then asked some technical questions, (view the study guide and sim/scenario section of this website).  Written test covering various WWYD and technical questions. Follow-up meeting with...

  8. 8.

Know how to brief an approach, both jeppesen and nos versions. They asked a lot of questions about the plate, not hard but a lot of questions. Like what the visibility required is, a couple different symbols. You will get asked to do some simple descent calcs.  Lots of scenario questions.  Lots of tell me about a time questions.  Make sure to bring all paperwork. They will cater lunch after or before depending on what time you have the interview. It's super great, you stuff...

  9. 9.

Your path to the in-person interview may vary depending if someone walked in a resume, sent it to a chief pilot or sent it to HR. I applied and updated a few times. Eventually, I had a 15-20 minute phone screening with one of the assistant chief pilots.   The majority of the phone screen was going into my background. There was only one technical question.  The ACP forwarded my stuff to Santa Monica recruiting. I was contacted by a recruiter and it was a similar...

  10. 10.

Made me feel very welcome! Interview was in Santa Monica, I had to pay for the flight and hotel. 5 total interview candidates. Interview was broken up into 3 sections. First was a power point presentation on the company. We were then taken into the lobby to fill out our PRIA forms. We were called up randomly to do either a technical or Culture interview in separate meeting rooms.    Took roughly 45 minutes. Technical Interview:  Technical interview was about an hour....
