  1. 1.  The in person interview was a long day but overall pretty relaxed. Technical exam had a random mix of IFR questions, raw data high alt winds and temps decoding, how to go missed off a circling approach, ACARS, stall characteristics of a swept wing, circling radius for cat C, 135 duty times, max holding speeds, max procedure turn speed, speed limit under the bravo, alternate rules for 135.   2. 2.  Just as described here, the phone call happens a few months ago. Basic HR questions, talking about the job, and 5 tech questions. They varied for person to person, but mostly Weather and IR stuff. Prepare for a long day. 11 hours total for the interview day. Started off with a presentation about the company, pretty informative. Study Guide Questions for Your Vista America Interview:

  1. 1. (Jan 07, 2026) What does MEL stand for?
    • Minimum Equipment List
  2. 2. What are the colors and purposes of Type 1 and Type 4 fluid?
    • Type 1 is orange, Type 4 is green
    • Type 1 is more for removal of contamination (ice/snow) and has a shorter holdover time. Type 4 is used to delay the reaccumulation of contaminants and therefore has a longer holdover time.
    • Type I fluid is used as a Deicer and is applied heated to the aircraft surfaces to remove frozen material. Type IV fluid is an anti-icing agent used to prevent frozen material from adhering to the aircraft prior to takeoff.
  3. 3. What is a MEL and CDL?
    • MEL stands for minimum equipment list (the minimum equipment needed to dispatch a flight) while CDL stands for configuration deviation list (the items that are missing as oppose to equipment that are not operative).
    • MEL stands for minimum equipment list, which is a list of minimum equipment required for the aircraft to be dispatched. CDL stands for configuration deviation list, which is a list of externally exposed non-structural parts that allows flight even if they are missing.
  4. 4. What are important qualities you would like to see from an employer?
    • Honesty, sincerity, and awareness for safety.
  5. 5. Have you had any training or checkride failures?
    • CPL: Landed 20ft short of the designated landing spot (1000ft markers) for the short field landing CFii: Messed up the GPS setup for the final RNAV approach due to confusion
  6. 6. How do you feel about a 15 on 13 off schedule?
    • It seems to be a great schedule for quality work time and quality family time.
  7. 7. When flying the ILS 36 circle to 18, what instrument do you use on the missed approach?
  8. 8. What are MEL categories and their allowed deferral times?
    • A - the deferral period defined in the comments column of the MEL, B - three days, C - 10 days, and D - 120 days.
  9. 9. What are holding speed restrictions?
    • Below 6000 feet MSL = 200 kts 6001 to 14,000 feet MSL = 230 kts Above 14,000 MSL = 265 kts
