Study Guide Questions for Your Red Wing Aviation Interview:

  1. 1. What is a MEL and CDL?
    • MEL stands for minimum equipment list (the minimum equipment needed to dispatch a flight) while CDL stands for configuration deviation list (the items that are missing as oppose to equipment that are not operative).
    • MEL stands for minimum equipment list, which is a list of minimum equipment required for the aircraft to be dispatched. CDL stands for configuration deviation list, which is a list of externally exposed non-structural parts that allows flight even if they are missing.
  2. 2. What are important qualities you would like to see from an employer?
    • Honesty, sincerity, and awareness for safety.
  3. 3. (Jul 11, 2024) Have you had any training or checkride failures?
    • CPL: Landed 20ft short of the designated landing spot (1000ft markers) for the short field landing CFii: Messed up the GPS setup for the final RNAV approach due to confusion
  4. 4. How do you feel about a 15 on 13 off schedule?
    • It seems to be a great schedule for quality work time and quality family time.
  5. 5. (May 06, 2024) When flying the ILS 36 circle to 18, what instrument do you use on the missed approach?
  6. 6. What are MEL categories and their allowed deferral times?
    • A - the deferral period defined in the comments column of the MEL, B - three days, C - 10 days, and D - 120 days.
  7. 7. What are holding speed restrictions?
    • Below 6000 feet MSL = 200 kts 6001 to 14,000 feet MSL = 230 kts Above 14,000 MSL = 265 kts

    • 200 Knots
